Biography of the author
Valery Medvedev (born 1944) is a Ukrainian sculptor. The author of world-famous monuments that have become part of the cultural and historical space of Ukraine. Honored Artist of Ukraine. Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. Formed in the academic school of the second half of the 20th century. He studied at the Kyiv Republican Art School named after T. Shevchenko; Kyiv State Art Institute (1967–1973), where he received professional education in the workshop of Professor M. Lysenko. Participant of all-Union, international and national exhibitions and competitions (since 1972). Works are kept in museum collections of Ukraine and private collections of European countries. Among the most famous works are the monument to Sholem Aleichem (1997), the memorial "To the Children Shot in Babyn Yar" (2001), the monument to Tatyana Marcus (2008–2009). These works have become part of the city memory of Kyiv. The artist's works are considered part of the "Golden Fund" of contemporary Ukrainian art. He lives and works in Kyiv.
