Sorin Saveliy (1878-1953) - Ukrainian artist. Born in Polotsk. Studied at the Odessa Art School (1896-1899) under K. Kostand. Studied at the Higher School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at the IAM (from 1899) under I. Tvoroznikov and V. Savinsky, then - in the studio of I. Repin. He made retirement trips to Holland and France (1908). Sorin's works were exhibited at the World Exhibition in Turin (Italy, 1911). Participant of the exhibitions of the "World of Art" society (1913, 1915, 1917), the exhibition of the New Society of Artists (Petrograd, 1917). Exhibitor of the Society of Traveling Art Exhibitions, the exhibitions "Art in Crimea", "Small Circle". Together with S. Sudeikin and writer M. Evreinov contributed to the creation of the cabaret "Merry Harlequin" in Baku. Since 1920 he lived in Paris, where he quickly gained popularity in European art circles. His works were exhibited at the Autumn Salon (1922-1923), in the Tuileries Salon (1926-1930). He participated in numerous exhibitions in Europe and America (in particular, in the Brooklyn Museum (1923), the Wildenstein Gallery in New York (1927, 1934), Washington (1924), Pittsburgh (1924-1925), Chicago (1927). During World War II he settled in the USA.
