Gontarov (Gontariv) Viktor Mykolayovych (1943-2009) is a Ukrainian painter. Born in the village Sotnytskyi Kozachok, Kharkiv Region He studied at the Children's Art School named after I. Repin (1956-1958); Kharkiv Art School (1958-1963); Leningrad Higher Art and Industrial School named after V. Mukhina (1967-1972). Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, Honored Artist of Ukraine (1995), Academician of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine. Worked at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts (since 1974), professor of the department of monumental painting. Laureate of the Shevchenko Prize (2009). The author of interior paintings in public and private buildings, easel paintings and graphic series. Participant of many personal and group exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. Gontariv developed his own style, which combined monumental generalization, certain traditions of Boychukism and Ukrainian religious and folk painting. He brought up a galaxy of young artists of his own painting school among the students of the Kharkiv Academy. Lived and worked in Kharkiv.
