Kurakh Ivan (1909-1968) - Ukrainian impressionist artist, painter and graphic artist. Born in the village of Serdytsia, Lviv region (at that time Austria-Hungary). Brother of the UNR army colonel Mykhailo Kurakh. Studied at the Lviv Art and Industrial School. Continued his studies in Warsaw at the local art school. Member of the "Spokiy" circle and participant in its sixth exhibition (1933). Worked as a decorator of the Warsaw Opera and collaborated with a famous Warsaw carpet factory. Moved to Rome (1935), via Berlin, where for some time he studied in the studio of the famous sculptor G. Kolbe. Entered the private school of professor of the Roman Academy of Arts F. Ferrazzi, later - to the Brera Academy of Arts in Milan, where he studied with D. Palanti. Received Italian citizenship (1936). He dedicated his personal exhibition in Rome (1941) to the memory of those who died “for the freedom of Ukraine”. He participated in the XXV Art Biennale in Venice (1950). He went to the United States of America (1953). He returned to Europe (1962) and settled in the Swiss town of Zollikon, where he lived and worked until his death. During his lifetime, the artist held over 100 personal exhibitions in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, the USA, Italy, Switzerland and other countries of the world.
