Biography of the author

Mykola Burachek (1871-1942) is a Ukrainian painter, scenographer, actor, teacher, writer and art historian. Born in the village Lyutichiv, Khmelnytskyi region. Studied at Kyiv University (1889). M. Murashka attended KRSH, where his teachers were M. Pymonenko and H. Platonov. On the recommendation of Ya. Stanislavskyi, he entered the Kraków Academy of Arts (the class of Ya. Stanislavskyi, then F. Rusyts). In Paris, he worked in the studio of A. Matisse (1910), later in the Vilna AM of P. Ranson. 3 1912 lived in Kyiv. Member of the Kyiv Association of Artists, Association of Ukrainian Artists. One of the founders of the Ukrainian AM (1918 – its president). From 1925 he worked in Kharkiv. One of the founders of ARMU, a member of the Union of Contemporary Artists of Ukraine, an exhibitor of the AHCHU, the head of the Kharkiv Central Bureau of Arts. He taught at Kharkiv Art Technical College (1925-1927) and XXI (1925-1931, from 1927 – professor). Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1936), Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1941). Author of many art history articles and monographs. Presented at the NHMU, the National Museum of T. Shevchenko in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, Chernihiv, Sumy, Donetsk Museum of Fine Arts and the Berlin Museum of Fine Arts. One of the researchers of the artistic heritage of T. Shevchenko attributed hundreds of his watercolors and paintings, made a chronology of the pictorial and graphic heritage.
