Biography of the author
Munkáci Migay (1844-1900) is a Hungarian painter, the founder of Hungarian realism in painting. Born in Mukachevo. He studied with the traveling artist Elek Samoš (1862–1863), at the Vienna Academy of Arts (1865) and the Munich Academy of Arts (1866–1868). Gold medal at the art salon in Paris for the work "The death chamber" (1870). Honorary member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (1880), awarded the Order of the Iron Crown III degree. On the occasion of the artist's 150th anniversary, UNESCO declared 1994 the year of Mihaya Munkachi. The creative heritage of the artist includes about 600 works.
