Biography

Serhii Vasylkivskyi (1854-1917) was a painter. Born in Izyum, Kharkiv Region. He studied at the Art School of D. Bezperchyi and M. Ranevska-Ivanova in Kharkiv. He studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts under M. Klodt and V. Orlovskyi (from 1876). Received a large gold medal and the title of class artist of the 1st degree (1885). Pensioner of Art Academy in England, Spain, Germany and Italy (1886-1888). Lived and worked in Kharkiv (since 1888). He created a number of lyrical landscapes of Ukraine. The author of paintings on historical and genre themes. The works are stored in the Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, National Art Museum of Ukraine, Kharkiv Museum of Art and many others.
