Butovych Mykola (1895-1961) - Ukrainian artist, graphic artist, writer. A master of book illustration and an outstanding caricaturist. He worked mainly in the technique of wood engraving and etching. Studied at the Academy of Arts and the Higher Art and Industrial School in Prague, graduated from the Graphic Academy in Leipzig (1926). The author of illustrations for the works of Gogol, Stefanyk, Kotlyarevskyi, tales of Hnatyuk, on topics of Ukrainian demonology. The author of series on the topics of Ukrainian folk tales, carols, shedrivoks, freckles, etc. He worked in Ukraine, Germany, the Czech Republic, France, Yugoslavia. Emigrated to the USA (1940s), where he published Autobiography (1956), as well as the memoirs Cadet Corps (1959) and Uprising against the Hetman (Grey Division) (1959).
