Biography
Anisfeld Boris (1878-1973) is a Russian and American artist, a stage designer. Studied at the Odessa Art School (1895-1900) at G. Ladyzhynsky and K. Kostandy, at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1901-1909), as well as in the workshops of I. Repin and D. Kardovsky. Member of the Union of Art "World of Art" (since 1901), participated in exhibitions "Union of Russian Artists". The most organic way of expression became for him the art of theater. Worked for "Russian Ballet" by S. Diaghilev, performing decorations for sketches by L. Bakst and other masters. Moved to New York (1918), collaborated with the Metropolitan Opera theater, with the Chicago opera (1921), arranged many performances, ballets, operas, and others. Later he moved to Chicago and taught at the local Art Institute (until 1957). He worked actively as a master of easel painting, creating canvases in the spirit of decorative and lyrical expressionism.
